Improving the provision of aged care in New Zealand Elder Family Matters doesn’t just want to provide the best care service in the wider Wellington region but we want to influence policy makers and other providers so all elderly access Quality home care.To influence policy makers and other providers Elder Family Matters has some clear opinions on how best homecare and support is provided. In 2011 and 2012 EFM is also part of the team revising the New Zealand Standard for the Home and Community Support Sector (NZS 8158:2003). Elder Family Matters also seeks opportunities to participate in debate. On this page we will publish papers that we present or submissions that we make. We would encourage you to read these opinions and reply with your opinions either to the forum or directly by email to efm@elderfamilymatters.co.nz Valuing Caregiving in New Zealand In this press release (pdf 200kb), December 2011, Elder Family Matters provides an opinion on caregiving and describes processes to value Carers and the contribution they make to the lives of older people. Office of the Auditor General - Home-based support services for older people This report was released in July 2011 and Elder Family Matters put out a press release titled Elderly New Zealanders compromised by lack of quality home-based care with our opinion on the report and its recommendations. Upper Hutt Senior Action Forum In March 2011 Lawrie Stewart of Elder Family Matters presented to the Upper Hutt Senior Action Forum on what constitutes quality care. A Report into Aged Care What does the future hold for older New Zealanders Read Elder Family Matters put out a press release for this report. The press release can be accessed here (pdf, 267kb) The report was prepared by Grey Power, Green Party, and Labour in November 2011 after a national tour of public meetings to gather information for this inquiry. Elder Family Matters presented a written submission towards this report. This submission can be accessed here (pdf, 217kb). Institute of Policy Studies Forum Institute of Policy Studies aged care forum May 2010. Jude Dore of Elder Family Matters joined with academics, policy analysts, government agencies, DHB representatives, and a range of aged care providers and peak organisation to debate partnership opportunities to enhance care of the elderly.
