Being a good listener is so important, and having a wonderful sense of humour is also very beneficial.

Wise hands and good hearts.
Our Carers are articulate, wise, carefully chosen and well supported.

Be an EFM Carer
Do you want to join our team? We are always interested in hearing from caring people who are drawn to supporting older people.

Elder Family Matters has a sizeable team of Carers and we’d like you share a testimonial from a previous Carer and introduce two of our Carers:

Howardcarer home care for elderly client

"It was the idea of being ‘The next best thing to family’ that attracted me to Elder Family Matters. I was interested in doing some care work with elderly people, and wanted something that was broader than just completing tasks on a list or being an anonymous cog in a client’s care plan.

Also, as a contractor at EFM I would be free to manage my schedule to fit around some other projects I still had on the go. For the two years I have contracted to EFM it has been just what I was looking for. The support and encouragement from the management team at the office has been superb, and I’ve been mentored through situations and judgement calls with wisdom, experience, and kindness. EFM has also offered training, at no cost to me, and let me know about outside training opportunities I could take up.

When I decided to move to a fulltime role in a retirement village, EFM gave me encouragement and support to make the change, and was happy to be a referee. If you are someone with broad experiences in life, high integrity, and absolute reliability who is considering a career supporting elderly people and their families, EFM is an excellent company to join." Carer laughing with Client .jpg Geraldine

Geraldine spent a lot of time with her Grandma when she was growing up. She could sit and listen to her and her friends talk for hours.

When Geraldine's marriage ended, she wondered how she was going to make ends meet. She saw Elder Family Matters advertising for more Carers and thought she might be quite good at caring for older people. After all she happily cared for her Grandma for many years.

As she had hoped, she loved it. She knew she was making a difference in her Client's life and even though she didn't see her Client's daughter very often, she knew she was really grateful too.

 Rob Man digging compost

Rob always felt older than his years. When he was a child, he enjoyed being around adults and when he became an adult, he seemed to gravitate toward the older generation. He realised that he liked the slower pace, the thoughfulness and politeness of the older generation.  Therefore, it seemed a natural choice for him to become a Carer when he moved on from full-time work.

Rob has been working for Elder Family Matters for a number of years. He's often asked to do gardening or outside maintenance tasks for his Clients, and what he loves most about his job is that what he does is so easy, but his Clients are always so extremely grateful because, as they often remind him, they could never do these things themselves.
