Companionship care within a residential facility

Our Clients in residential care often tell us, that without our help, they feel cut off from society.
EFM works hard to match just the right Companion Carer with a Client, someone who will link them into those activities, relationships and interests that have them feeling more energised and connected with their world.

EFM believe that regular recreation time with a Companion Carer will be of therapeutic benefit to Clients and will help alleviate the frustration and confinement of a residential care facility.

EFM Companion Carers perform a variety of activities with Clients such as:
  • Playing interactive games which stimulate Clients physically, cognitively and socially;
  • Encouraging Clients to undertake drawing / painting and other craft activities which allow them to express themselves creatively as well as exercising fine motor skills;
  • Playing quoits, magnetic/Velcro darts, ball hoops and similar games to maintain and build Client’s manual dexterity;
  • Reading to and reminiscing with a Client to stimulate memory and cognitive functions;
  • Taking Clients out to places of interest such as:
    • Taking a wheelchair ride or walk along the waterfront or through public gardens;
    • Visiting friends or family;
    • Enjoying an ice cream or cuppa at some scenic spot;
    • Visiting the numerous, superb and mostly free museums, libraries and galleries;
    • Going to a movie, concert or U3A / Probus meeting;
    • Going to a shopping mall;
    • aged care companionshipTaking a train ride up the line, or cable car up the hill, or ferry across the harbour;
